We are all settled into our new classroom environment and happy to grow and learn with our new friends! We started our school year learning the letters Ii, Tt & Pp. We are trying a new letter introduction order that corresponds to the frequency they are used in our language! We even started blending the letter sounds together that we have learned. We are practicing our pencil grips and writing out names! It's amazing on how much we have improved so far this year! We look forward to our Dads coming next week for Donuts with Dad! It is always a fun time showing our dads around our classroom and meeting our friends...the donuts are great too! Come by anytime to say hello to us and see what great things we are doing that day! Preschool is always so busy! Ms. Becky & friends! MUSIC NOTES 2008 WOW! The school year is on a roll and so are the Musicians of Wea. The students have already been active in so many aspects of music. I am not sure where to begin. So here goes. Four Year Old/Pre K students are learning songs that use the letters A and B. They are also learning songs in Spanish. Kindergarten students have already learned to draw and recognize the treble clef, whole note, half note, staff, and bar line. First Grade musicians have been reviewing the music symbols learned last year as well as learning to read the notes on the staff. Students have been learning about the instruments of the orchestra and band. Second Grade has been reviewing all of the music notes learned last year as well as expanding their music reading knowledge to include the notes on the treble clef staff. These students are learning about the instruments of the band/orchestra. Third Grade has been introduced to the harmonica including the history, how they are made, and how they are make sounds. The students are already making music!! Fourth Grade has been instructed about the care, and playing techniques of the recorder. Beautiful recorder sounds are coming from the music room. They have learned three notes already! Fifth Grade is diligently working on learning note values. Fifth Grade Band Students have got their instruments /books and have played their first few notes. It is great to see them so excited about playing in band. Sixth , Seventh and Eighth Grade Band is continuing to expand their playing skills. Progress is made each and every day. Middle School Choir meets at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings and is working on learning to sing in harmony and understanding their voice /vocal techniques. In addition to all of the above, the students in various classes have already participated in all school masses as the choir and will continue to do so throughout the year. I want thank all staff, parents and families for their continued support of the Music Department at Holy Rosary-Wea. It is great to be teaching such talented students and working with such incredible people. Remember: He Who Sings Prays Twice!!!Nedra Miller Kindergarten News This week in : Reading- We read the story Miss Bindergarten takes a Field Trip with the Kindergarten. We continued to review letter recognition, beginning sounds, rhyming words, character and setting .Math- We learned about position words such as under, above, beside, next to, different, alike, under, above, out and in. We did many different activities to help us learn about these words including a very fun activity using doghouses on Tuesday. Religion- Last week we learned that God made us wonderful. This week we focused on the five senses God gave us. Monday we used our sense of sight. Tuesday we used our sense of hearing. We tried to find a partner with the same sounding egg, as ours. Thursday, we used our senses of smell and taste, to find out if all food that smells good, taste good. We had lots of fun! Social Studies- This week was all about community. We explored ways to be responsible in our community. We learned how to be responsible students in our classrooms. Many parents were able to come and share, with the classes, how their jobs help the community! We would like to give a BIG “Thanks” to all the parents that were able to come and share their interesting jobs! We had a blast listening to your stories! The Kindergarten Classes HELP! HELP!
